I did this day before yesterday around noon – it must have been 103 degrees out. I swear I could see the watercolor drying on the page. The paper buckled more than usual from the quick dry action I think. This is the inside of the front gate at work.
This was from a while ago, but I’m experimenting with updating the old sketchblog from my phone & thought this would be a good sketch to try it out on.
… and with roller skates! Note: don’t try this at home, she’s a trained professional. (Also note: there may or may not be a glass of champagne involved. Very advanced technique.)
At our dining room table a few minutes ago. From left to right: Our son, our cat, our nephew, our son’s best friend. Jack and Seth are locked in battle on their laptops playing Dota 2.
Last night my son came by my studio / man-cave (as my wife calls it) and asked if he could draw me. So I took the opportunity of drawing him as he did that. Just for fun I looked back on this blog to see how many times I’ve drawn him drawing – here’s the result: here in 2010, here in 2009, here in 2008, here in 2007, here in 2006 (although that sketch is actually from 2002, I just posted it in 2006) and here in 2005. It’s funny to see him growing up in the sketches! That guy loves to draw.
Sometimes we just sit at the end of the table and talk.
I sketched these flowers this morning after I noticed that one of them bloomed over night. I used a black Listo Marking Pencil – ancient technology for a “marks on anything” kind of grease pencil, sort of the Sharpie from the 1920s. It’s waterproof so it works great with watercolor. Anyway, happy holidays! My new year’s resolution is to post more often 🙂
