Camping – 2010! Uncle Jerry

A lot of people came to visit us and stay with us at the campsite. It was great to see Uncle Jerry again. He’s folding up his tent in the lower left-hand corner.

Camping – 2010! Daughters reading

Image copyright Anthony Zierhut

We aren’t very active campers, usually a good book, a sketch book, guitar playing, some crafts to work on, good food, lots of sleep and rafting down the river are our activities. We aren’t the hiking, rappelling, bungie-jumping sort.

Camping – 2010! Joan cooking

Joan, as usual, cooked some fabulous meals at the campsite. Those little bottles at her feet are the used propane bottles used on the camping stove. Every year that little Coleman two-burner stove gets a serious workout.

Camping – 2010! The campsite

Every year we go to Big Sur, to the same campsite, for a week or so. We just got back and I managed to finish off my latest sketch book! So there are a few images to share. Here’s the campsite. More to come!

Reading glasses and book

Lately I’ve been unconsciously, then consciously, using line to describe only contour and shadow contour while using wash to describe only value. It’s a simplification of reality that I seem to find compelling these days. In this case the black watercolor wash has created some interesting textures floating around on the paper.

Jury Duty

Luckily I wasn’t selected for a jury this time. It was an interesting opportunity to sketch.

We sat around and drew each other…

I drew my oldest daughter…

I drew my son…

…And he drew me! (Pretty good likeness, too.)

Joan Teaching

This sketch was done just minutes ago. My wife teaching kids art. We had lunch together at the school. Now, back to work!
