I’ve been walking to work again. We’ve been having beautiful weather (and we’re down to one car now) so it all works out. I’ve often thought about how odd it is, our family living in car-crazy Southern California, that my wife and I live close enough to our respective workplaces that we can walk, and all three kids have always walked to school (and still do). It’s kind of ironic. Since I can’t see myself walking to work, this is of course my idea of what I look like walking to work…
My wife’s ukulele teacher’s blues band. They did an awesome rendition of “Red House” and a smokin’ (pardon the pun) version of John Lee Hooker’s “Burning Hell“.

This is Jack and Seth sitting by the campfire. The sketch below it is my idea of what the cereal box sketch book might look like.
We just got back from the annual camping trip in Big Sur. I made four sketchbooks there. I like the idea of “reduce, reuse, recycle” and so, in that spirit, I made use of a finished cereal box for the covers. They’re super sturdy and glossy and kind of cool too. I still have a few pages to fill in my current book, but I look forward to getting into this one in the near future!
A scene from last month at our good friends’ house. Everyone was encouraged to pitch tents in the backyard by the pool (that’s ours in the background – you may recognize it from previous camping posts). Wonderful idea, great weekend. I hope they do it again next year!
We were watching a silly video on my wife’s laptop when I looked up and saw all three kids hugging while watching. I had to sketch them. (I still can’t believe they’re all teenagers now.)
